While you wait…

Good morning (just) breakfast/food lovers,

Feel my pain if you will, I had written a fairly long entry about a beautiful and very tasty weekend with the girls and for some ridiculous reason it didn’t save…. Defeated, and drained, I went to bed to wait for a new day for inspiration.

In the meantime, for a food related read and pics, click and “like” the link below.

Is the capital of kitchen ‘YUM’??

I wrote an imaginary letter to my non-imaginary friend the other day…it involved a totally real toasted sandwich made from the toased, buttery heavens above!!! (yes, I did just watch the ‘The Imaginarium of Dr Parnasses’…. and yes, I am now MORE all-sorts-of confused…but that’s a story for another day kids!)

Dear Schpacey, (thats my friend stacey, but she likes to be called schpacey arrrrr sinepy…)

I had a yummy, fatty dream the other night…. it involved, you + me + buttery + cheesy + droooooooly yum waiter + my iphone?….haha!! 😀

I was in Trier when I had this dream, so obviously it was more like a fantasy…

Imagine the pain that I was in when I woke to find

a) there is no capital kitchen in Trier

b) there is no ‘secret ingredient is lemon’ toasted fatty goodies

and sadly c) there was no you…

but still!!! – whilst I was having the dream, it was super! I wish skype allowed for tasting… like a tastaphone, or maybe it should be called a fatty-phone…. b/c thats pretty much what happens when you eat them right?

When I get back you’d better be 20 kg heavier!!!! (otherwise I’ll know you really didn’t miss me… ) 😉

xoxo, Jo

So you see, not only can I not speak and German in Germanland… I now dream about toasted, buttery (non)imaginary sandwiches from a place called ‘Yum’…..worst day of my liiife (jokes!! jokes!!) 🙂

Dear Mr Oliver…

[ 15 Westland Place, London N1 7LP ]

I think to be quite honest, the food in London isn’t one to sing ‘n’ dance about… and as a Melburnian, you can’t help but be a little picky about the food you eat- as we are so very blessed to have so many talented chefs and cafes. So… going to a place like fifteen, was an absolute treat! [and a half! ]

We went for dinner their the previous night, and I seriously haven’t had such yummy scrummy moorish culinary treat since I’d left home sweet home…. sigh…even the the lush olives were ‘burst- in- your-mouth’ freshness and flavour like your can not believe an olive can hold…

We walked accross the road from the appartment to indulge in some yummies for our tummies before we farewelled LDN to start our adventure in Trier, Germanland.

Fifteen in the morning light gave way to the jovial and light atmosphere. It was bathing in freshness and glistening with new day aura.

I ordered poached eggs/grilled tomatoes/ portobello mushies [I like to judge a breaky cafe by its poached egg quality]

and I think he ordered ‘a mountain of scrambled eggs accompanying pretty much a whole smoked salmon… well it wasn’t exactly what he ordered, but it sure as hell looked like it. [photos don’t even do it justice yo!]

oh!, and I ordered something different to drink, as fresh juices with a hint of ginger isn’t as readily available as it is in melbourne town. I committed to a marriage of ‘apple, english cucumber, mint and yoghurt in the form of a smoothie’…at first taste, I was shocked at the unusual flavour, but after the second, but tastebuds and I aggreed it was a HIT! yummo-land!!!

Eggs were poached to absolute perfection, and the whole plate was pretty much devoured before I could even offer him any. This breakfast had turned me into some sort of breaky animal…. awkward…!!! 😉

One thing I really did forget to mention is the service, MY LORDY, truly unlike most customer service I have been ‘so fortunate’ to receive- they were polite, helpful and actually around. Excuse my cutting remarks, but you have to agree London has many amazing things to offer…customer service aint making that list…

Overall, I truly enjoyed the experience, as dining isn’t 100% about the food – lets dust off ol’ Pareto, and borrow his rule: I would say 80% delicious 20% delivery. voila! a recipe for dancing tastebuds and a super satisfied tum tum!

Fifteen London on Urbanspoon

[ Trier, Germanland ]

so… here, on the other side of the world the sun shines in the middle of the year and snows in the beginning and end… the water turns the other way down the drain, and the sun moves in a different direction…so I am told. It makes a lot of sense b/c a lot of the times I feel like I’m upside down.

I can not begin to tell you how fresh the air is here, and how vivid all the plants are – Melbourne is truly amazing, but its hardly the greenest city.

Here we are graced with the most fertile soil in Europe. And the water quality in Trier is something out of a dream. I mean Melbourne water is pretty ok, but coming from London [lime scale central] it was a dreamy dream come true.

As a result, the produce here is just ‘happy’. Happy cows, happy schweine [pigs], happy fruit & vegies.

Riding my bike through the town and the vineyards is an experience, I don’t think these feet of mine have touched pedals since….. well since Italy, but before that… well that was a lifetime ago!!

There’s nothing quite like the smell of fresh grass and flowers tickling your nose whilst the beautiful spring/summer sun dances on your skin as you glide through one of the enchanting Trier bike trails…

I slow down and hop off, oh so gracefully… NOT!!! – I am such an unco, I keep falling upon take off and landing…. pretty much ALL the time! fun times for my fanny!

Anyway, as I ‘gracefully’ slide off my bici, I meander through the fresh food and produce market in the city square. I purchase fresh German Erdbeeren [that’s strawberries for those of you playing at home 😉 ] and duck into Aldi for some fluffy brioche.

The warm oveny sweet sweeeeet result isn’t friendly for the thighs, but truly a delight for my tum tum and eyes.

enjoy 🙂
